How to pay an electricity bill from home?

- Pay your bill online through BHIM
Bharat Interface for money is the safest app for electricity bill payment online. It has been developed through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) which is operated by the national payment corporation of India. To use this, you have to download and install the BHIM app, which is available at play store for android and iTunes for iOS. You are required to link your bank account with BHIM to pay your bill to various utility providers. To pay your bill, choose the 'Bills' in BHIM application and click 'Electricity'.
Enter your consumer number after selecting your utility provider. Input your bill amount and click on submit. It will ask for your key/password to complete the transaction.
- Submit your electricity bill from home through Interactive Voice System on the telephone
At the time of payment from home, you need to know the method of calculating electricity bill from meter reading. Note down the meter reading, which will be in kWh (kilowatt-hour). See the last month's reading from its bill and deduct it from the present month reading. Calculation of reading will give the amount of energy for which you have to pay. This amount will add with fixed monthly charge after multiplying to the rate of the one-kilowatt hour. The total amount will be your electricity bill for the month.
No more need to fill cheques or stand in long queues as with Interactive voice response (IVR) you can pay your electricity bill by sitting on your sofa. To pay your electricity bill, you are required to dial the IVR number from your telephone. It will ask for your details, such as consumer numbers. After confirming your identity and details, the IVR will speak out the arrears and ask to proceed by keying a specific number. You are required to type the digits of your credit card or debit card. After your typing, it will speak out your card number to avoid discrepancies in payment. Next, you have to key your card's PIN, and IVR will tell you on successful completion of the transaction.
- Your bank will pay your electricity bill
The amount of your monthly electricity bill will be automatically debited from your bank account. And this amount will be credited in the account of utility providers. Many public sector banks and commercial banks on request of the customer provide this service.
