Here’s Everything You Need to Know about Redmi 5A

Launched in October 2017, the Redmi 5A series by Xiaomi is one of the best budget smartphones in the Indian market. The phone comes in two variants, Redmi 5A 16GB, with 2GB RAM in Rose Gold, and Redmi 5A 32GB, with 3GB RAM in Gold. The 16 GB version is priced at ₹6, 399.

Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch touchscreen display with resolution of 720x1280 pixels, PPI of 294 pixels per inch and 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a 13-MP f/2.2 primary camera at the rear and a 5-MP secondary camera sensor at the front. The 13-MP primary camera is equipped with PDAF and LED flash. The front camera sensor has f/2.0 aperture. Other camera features include geo-tagging, face/smile detection, HDR and Panaroma options.

At the core lies the 1.4GHz quad-core Cortex A53 processor, coupled with 2GB and 3GB RAM in different versions. It is one of the few Redmi mobile phones that run on the Android 7.1.2. Under the hood lies a 3000mAh non-removable battery.

Dimension wise, the phone measures in at 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.4 mm and weighs 137 gm. It sports a sleek aluminum body, along with a front glass. It has a metal-finish polycarbonate back and thick bezels. The display is bright and capable of transmitting 16M colours. The phone has an LED light under the home button, so that users can know of various notifications even while charging, such as messages, calendar notifications, etc.

Apart from this, the device has a lowest brightness setting to help you read in low light, without too much brightness to disturb others. The ‘Read Mode’ further blocks any blue light from the phone at night that can cause hindrance to the body’s natural circadian rhythms.

The Redmi 5A has a 3.5mm jack and loudspeakers for sound. It supports WAV and MP3 ringtones and has vibrating capabilities. The phone also features active noise cancellation and a dedicated mic.

This phone comes with two internal storage option, 16 GB and 32GB, and both versions can be expanded to 256GB via a micro-SD card. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, A2DP, LE, GPS, infrared port, FM radio and a micro-USB 2.0 port. Redmi mobile phones have recently been updated with the latest MIUI 10 Beta update, including the Redmi 5A. In 2017, this phone was launched with MIUI 9, based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, and has now received the MIUI 10 Beta ROM 8.7.12 update.
